Plan your kitchen with self-cleaning oven

House cleaning is always a chore! Especially the kitchen is one of the rooms where cleanliness is the be-all and end-all. The oven is certainly the most unpleasant opponent here for many, as its cleaning can be very troublesome due to the many hard-to-reach nooks and crannies.

Not surprisingly, then, self-cleaning ovens are now knocking down open doors for many people when it comes to buying a new kitchen! What options for built-in ovens are also available for you in our kitchen studios, we reveal in our new blog post.

Self-cleaning ovens - these options are often presented to you in the kitchen consultation.

In addition to all the other aspects that need to be considered in the course of professional kitchen planning, you can get information at the kitchen consultation, among other things, regarding the different variants of self-cleaning ovens.

The different cleaning methods bring various advantages and disadvantages, which must be compared. So before you buy a kitchen, you should know the following variants of self-cleaning ovens:

Hot, hotter, pyrolysis!

Probably the most effective program for self-cleaning ovens is the so-called pyrolysis process.

As the name suggests, heat or the targeted burning of impurities plays a role here. Pyrolysis self-cleaning allows the oven to be heated to 500 °C and more.

The high temperatures ensure that any dirt such as grease particles or crusts detaches from the walls and collects as ash on the furnace floor. After the stove has cooled down, the ash can be easily wiped out with a damp cloth. This saves you chemical cleaning agents and time-consuming cleaning.

The pyrolytic self-cleaning process also spares the oven's inner coating from damage. The disadvantage: The strong heating generates high energy consumption and thus causes additional electricity costs.

Catalysis - the coating makes the difference

In contrast to the pyrolytic process, cleaning in baking ovens with catalysis takes place at temperatures as low as 200 °C.

The catalytic process works via a special, coarse-pored enamel coating. Here, grease soiling is already dissolved during normal operation. All that is needed for cleaning is a little washing-up liquid or other light kitchen cleaner. Stronger oven cleaners should not be used, as they are not necessary and, more importantly, would damage the oven coating.

The clear advantage of catalysis: This cleaning process is particularly fast and environmentally friendly, as it saves energy! Disadvantage: Sugar and acidic soiling is difficult to remove with this method. In addition, catalytic coatings have the disadvantage that they wear out after a while and have to be renewed.

Environmentally friendly with hydrolysis

Ovens with the self-cleaning function of hydrolysis work with steam to remove soiling. To do this, about half a liter of water with a little detergent is poured into the bottom tray of the oven and heated. The resulting steam softens the surfaces of the oven walls so that the dirt can then be removed more easily with a cloth.

In principle, this cleaning procedure can actually be carried out with any conventional oven (as long as it is not too old a model).

However, there are ovens that also have steam boost or steam assistance, making the process easier.

The hydrolysis process is therefore particularly environmentally friendly. However, it requires a bit more manual work when wiping out the dirt. Compared directly with pyrolysis and catalysis processes, soiling caused by steam is the most laborious to remove.
